Sandhya Purecha is a renowned Bharatanatyam exponent, performing academician, guru, choreographer, writer and an avowed scholar-researcher of Sanskrit vis-a-vis Indian classical dance.
She has received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her overall contribution in the field of dance in 2017. Among other honours, she has received the Maharashtra State Cultural Award in 2006 from the Government of Maharashtra, the Gujarat Gaurav Puraskar in 2007, by the Government of Gujarat and Gujarat State Sangeet Natak Academy. Purecha’s brain-child, Bharata College of Fine Arts and Culture, affiliated with the Kavikulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University in Nagpur, is a pioneering college offering diploma to PhD studies in Indian classical dance.
