A Perspective – Drishtikon – Kathakali by Renjish Nair

A Perspective – Drishtikon is a series of lecture-demonstrations to promote classical dance forms of India. It is held by the Museum Society of Mumbai with generous support from the NCPA and K.V. Mariwala Philanthropy Initiative on the 60th anniversary of the society. This month, Kathakali exponent Renjish Nair, will give an insightful lecture-demonstration on this dance form.

Renjish Nair is a disciple of C. Gopalakrishnan. He has studied Kathakali at the basic, advanced and research levels at Kalakshethram, Dombivli. He has also been accredited as an “A” grade artiste by Doordarshan, Mumbai, and has performed at prestigious events all over India including the Khajuraho Festival, Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, Upvan Arts Festival, Jaya Smriti, and Sangeet Natak Akademi Jodhpur, to name a few. Nair has won many national competitions and awards, including the Natwar Gopikrishna National Award, Saptarang Kala Bhushan Award, Nritya Shiromani Award and Narthaka Puraskar. He also plays the chenda and is a Carnatic music trainer.
