Odissi exponent Sujata Mohapatra performs at the NCPA for the first time with her own troupe presenting Adyanta. ‘Adi’ means the beginning, ‘anta’ means the end. The purpose of Indian classical dance is to attain spirituality. Both life and dance are connected to divinity. Mohapatra explores the repertoire of Odissi dance which is from Mangalacharan to moksha – the auspicious beginning in dance relating to birth ends with moksha or salvation which surrenders to the almighty.

Widening Circles

Renowned Kathak artiste Aditi Mangaldas will present Widening Circles which is based on the concept of pratityasamutpada or interdependent co-arising. This is, because that is. From the arising of this comes the arising of that. Widening Circles is presented in three parts: The Sun: The glorious and the mighty to the delicate and the minute!
The Earth: Ah! Just as the bud opens at the crack of dawn, the stars wink and withdraw!

The Moon: The moon rises and alas, I, the blossoming lotus once again a bud, must endure these pangs of separation from my beloved.
