Born into a family of musicians and dancers—she is the grand-niece of noted Bharatanatyam exponent Padma Subrahmanyam—Mahati Kannan is an excellent artiste in her own right. She has a master’s in art history from the National Museum Institute, New Delhi, which has opened new possibilities for applying that knowledge to dance.

Madhusmita Mohanty received training at the Orissa Dance Academy, Bhubaneswar and was groomed into a fine dancer under the able tutelage of Bichitrananda Swain, Aruna Mohanty and Gangadhar Pradhan. She completed Alankar Poorna (master’s degree) in Odissi from the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Mumbai. She has performed at prestigious venues both in India and abroad. Mohanty has been invited by SPICMACAY to present lecture-demonstrations and conduct workshops. She is a recipient of, among other accolades, the Senior National Fellowship and Senior National Scholarship (from the Government of India), the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar and ‘Sringarmani’ title from Sur Sringar Samsad. She is an ‘A’ grade artiste of Doordarshan and an empanelled artiste of ICCR. Mohanty has trained students from Bhubaneswar and the USA. She has worked as the Academic Head of the Faculty of Performing Arts at Sri Sri University, Govindpur, Odisha.

Shashwati Garai Ghosh is a leading Odissi dancer who has carved a niche in her field. She is the seniormost disciple of internationally acclaimed dancer and choreographer Sharmila Biswas, with whom she has been associated since 1999. Ghosh, who runs her own dance institute, Angashuddhi – Home for Odishi, in Kolkata, is a recipient of, among other honours, the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Yuva Pratibha Samman and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar. She has performed widely in India and abroad and conducts workshops for schools and institutes across the country.
