Prominent among the various initiatives undertaken by Citi and NCPA are two schemes: Support to Gurus and Scholarships to Young Musicians. These programs are in the field of Hindustani vocal (dhrupad and khayal) and instrumental music (melody and percussion instruments). The CITI-NCPA Promising Artistes Series has been launched to showcase beneficiaries of these schemes.

In this event, two shishyas will be featured individually. The first performance is a sitar recital by Dr. Vikas Bharadwaj followed by a vocal recital by Ankita Deole Damle.

Dr. Vikas Bharadwaj initially trained in vocal music when he was seven, and later, at the age of ten, took up the sitar under the guidance of Sudha Agarwal. He then continued his training with Ram Krishna Bose, Devendra Mishra and Nayan Ghosh. He has authored the book, Pandit Pannalal Ghosh – Vyaktitva evam Krititva, and his articles on various aspects of music have been featured in reputed journals. Bharadwaj has been regularly performing in and out of India. He has been a part of the World Music Festival, Switzerland, and many other events in Europe in addition to performing in important music festivals across India.

At the age of ten, Ankita Deole Damle began her journey into classical music under the able guidance of Madhuri Joshi. For the past twelve years, she has been under the tutelage of Padma Talwalkar, a renowned Indian classical vocalist, who selected Damle as one of the promising students under the NCPA scheme, Support to Gurus (2016-2020). Talwalkar has provided her insights into the art of concert singing and acquiring the intricacies and aesthetics of vocal music. Damle is a recipient of national scholarships in Hindustani Vocal Classical Music by the Indian Ministry of Culture (2011-2013) and the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training, New Delhi (1999-2008), amongst others. She has several performances to her credit in India and abroad.
