CITI – NCPA Promising Artistes Series

Prominent among the various initiatives undertaken by Citi and the NCPA are two schemes: Support to Gurus and Scholarships to Young Musicians. These programmes are in the field of Hindustani vocal (dhrupad and khayal) and instrumental music (melody and percussion instruments). This series is launched to showcase the beneficiaries of the above schemes. Pratik Singh has trained in Indian classical music for 18 years. He received initial vocal training from Rajaram Shukla (Gosai Parampara, Jaipur gharana), extended training from Surmani Rajkumar Singh and advanced training in tabla from Nayan Ghosh. He is being trained under ‘Citi-NCPA Support to Gurus’ and has graduated (visharad) in tabla from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, an esteemed music institution at Prayagraj. Among other events, he has performed at the birth centenary of Allarakha Khan at the NCPA. Rasika Vartak-Garud started learning music when she was just three. She received her first lessons of classical music from Bhagyashree Mule and Sanjay Gavande. She was initiated into khayal gayaki under the guidance of Vasanti Tembe, a renowned vocalist of Jaipur gharana who groomed her talent extensively for six years. She has been under the tutelage of Padma Talwalkar since 2004, having accompanied her in concerts, both in India and abroad. Rasika has completed her Masters in Hindustani classical music (vocal) with an outstanding grade from Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune. She has also been awarded B grade by All India Radio. She has started ‘Fusion-Sanskruti Arts Foundation’ in Lagos, Nigeria, where she spends half the year teaching Hindustani classical music. She has been selected under the ‘Citi-NCPA Support to Gurus’ scheme.
