The Magical Draw of Vibhava -Navtej Johar’s approach to abhinaya is based upon the “responsive” body.  The workshop will focus on endowing poetic power to the vibhava (the determinant) that may freely provoke and elicit bhava out of the body.  A series of somatic practices will be offered using word, sound and imagery to foster ease and, more importantly, poetic license in the body, so that it may be able to respond to the layered evocations of the vibhava with authenticity and spontaneity.

Navtej Johar is a dancer-choreographer, yoga practitioner, scholar and social activist. His work within all fields of his varied interests remains consistently body-centric as it twines practice and critical theory with social action.  Johar teaches Dance Studies at the Ashoka University and is the founder-director of Studio Abhyas, New Delhi, where he teaches two practices that he has devised: the BARPS Method of Asana and Abhyas Somtics,  both being inspired by the concepts of sukha and rasa that are central to Yoga and Indian poetics respectively.
