English Play with some Hindi and Marathi
Eklavya: The Wronged is a contemporary retelling of the story of Eklavya from the Mahabharata.
An exceptional archer, Eklavya poses a threat to the prophecy of Arjun being the best archer. Dronacharya will make sure Arjun’s prophecy is upheld and will not share his knowledge, except with the princely students.
Eklavya wants to learn from Dronacharya (the teacher to the privileged few), but is refused, and yet, he has to sacrifice his thumb as guru dakshina, for “learning” from Drona’s statue.
The play is a tragic-comedy reimagined through the lens of systemic, caste-based exclusion in present-day educational institutions, brought alive through music, movement and martial arts.
