Hindustani music (khayal) recital by Vinayak Torvi
Born in Dharwad, Vinayak Torvi was groomed in the intricacies of Kirana, Gwalior as well as Agra gharanas by stalwarts such as Bhimsen Joshi and Gururao Deshpande. He also received guidance from maestros GangubaiHangal, Mallikarjun Mansur and BasavrajRajguru.
His music reflects a confluence of three styles. It is marked by an open-throated articulation, textural sophistication and a variety of taans, all imbued with a rich emotional appeal. His repertoire includes khayal, tarana, thumrias well as bhajan, abhang and Kannada vachanas.
An ‘A’ grade artiste of AIR and DD, Vinayak Torvi has performed widely in India and overseas. Recipient of numerous awards, he continues to groom youngsters in classical music.
In this recital, Vinayak Torvi will showcase an eclectic approach to aesthetic build up in khayal vocalism.
