Marie, a charming tomboy, was adopted by the French army regiment. She is supposed to marry a soldier from the regiment, but falls in love with Tonio, a peasant boy. In order for her to marry Tonio, he must first join the regiment to become eligible to be her husband. However, Marie learns that she is in fact the daughter of a Marchioness and her mother arranges for her to marry a Duke, leaving Marie to choose between her family and true love.
