Ladies Compartment is a dynamic music project based out of Mumbai. The name ‘Ladies Compartment’ is a tribute to the daily trials of a working woman in the city of Mumbai, along with the almost cinematic romanticism of local trains. The members of the group initially came together to share their interests in American folk, jazz, blues, indie and Carnatic Indian classical traditions, just like the passengers in a ladies train compartment, each with their own unique story to tell. What started as a band has now evolved into a larger project. Ladies Compartment currently comprises well-established musicians along with upcoming talented local female artistes. Band members include Ramya Pothuri (acoustic & vocals), Aarifah Rebello (drums & vocals), Aditi Ramesh (keys & vocals) and
Nandita V. (bass & vocals). The band hopes to write and perform more, record their original music and execute the many diverse ideas they daydream about in the middle of serious jam sessions.
