Dance Performance

Mallika Sarabhai is a noted Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam dancer. Born to famous dancer Mrinalini Sarabhai and the well-known scientist Vikram Sarabhai, Sarabhai is a woman of many dimensions and talents. She has also shown her talent in the fields of acting, theatre, writing and publishing. Sarabhai has won many national and international awards for her excellence in and contribution to the performing arts. Apart from her contribution to the field of classical dance, she has also contributed columns for several national newspapers. She looks after the Darpana Academy of Performing Arts.

She has been awarded the Gaurav Puraskar from the Government of Gujarat for her contribution in the field of drama and dance, and the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India. Astad Deboo is an Indian contemporary dancer and choreographer, who employs his training in Indian classical dance forms of Kathak as well as Kathakali to create a dance form that is unique to him, and has become a pioneer of modern dance in India. Throughout his long and illustrious career, he has worked with various prominent performers such as Pina Bausch, Alison Becker Chase and Pink Floyd, and has performed in many parts of the world. He has been awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1996 and the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2007.
