MIST Festival – Day 1

Geeta Ramanujam, a pioneer of the storytelling movement in India, will be felicitated by Mumbai Storytellers Society for her contribution to the field. Ramanujam has evolved the ancient art of storytelling through workshops and certified courses. She is the founder and executive director of Kathalaya’s International Academy of Storytelling and Kathalaya Trust. Kathalaya is a globally recognised academy for storytelling offering accredited courses affiliated in the US, Scotland and Sweden.

Abhinaya Katha by Apeksha Niranjan
Apeksha Niranjan, a Bharatnatyam dancer, choreographer, art educator and an actress from Mumbai, has to her credit the innovation of incorporating Gregorian chants into traditional Bharatanatyam performances and choreographing a recital on traditional Polish folk music. Abhinaya Katha, an unconventional Bharatanatyam recital, takes you to the of Europe and depicts the story of the Nobel-winning research of scientist Marie Curie.

Ameen Haque, a poet, storyteller and teacher of the craft, presents Na Hindu, Na Musalmaan: Kabir Ki Dastaan, a dastangoi-style performance that traces the journey of the poet-saint Kabir as a weaver, mystic and fearless questioner of identity, ritual and belief through Urdu narration and music.

Mehak Mirza Prabhu, a storyteller, scriptwriter and life coach, presents original Hindi stories touching upon the complexities of today’s times. Blending depth, humour and spontaneity, the performance unfolds as she transforms into multiple characters.
