Artificial Intelligence (AI) is defined as the ability of machines to mimic human cognitive functions such as learning, reasoning, problem-solving and perception, using technology to process vast data, find patterns and make decisions or predictions. In the domain of contemporary music production, AI can consistently reinforce human decision-making by acting as a creative assistant at various key stages from lyric ideation, groove or harmonic foundations, sound and arrangement inspiration to the final polish and preparation for the release.

As composer, music producer and singer, Ishan Rojindar’s work is driven by a strong focus on composition, orchestration, advanced arrangement, and modern music production, with particular emphasis on hybrid and AI-assisted creative workflows. A faculty member of Music Production at KM Music Conservatory, Chennai, his approach combines traditional musicianship with modern production systems—bridging acoustic performance, orchestral writing, electronic textures and data-driven creative processes. His practice spans film scoring, vocal and ensemble arrangement, large-format productions and multi-genre studio work, with projects ranging from mainstream cinema to experimental ensemble contexts.

With an approach guided by human creativity, rather than automation, this presentation aims to illustrate the relevance of AI in contemporary music-making. With real-life examples, it will provide a practical walkthrough for music production; emphasising creative judgment over technical definitions. Further, there will be a direct and balanced discussion addressing common fears around AI and job displacement, clarifying that AI impacts shortcuts and convenience-driven workflows and not artistes with identity, taste and lived experience. Thus, overall emphasising the role of AI as a compositional and exploratory tool rather than a replacement for artistic intent.
