Celebrating love, blossom and colours

Celebrating three aspects of the season of love -Spring through three very different dances from India.
Lavni – a folk dance form from Maharashtra known for its bold expressions of love and crisp footwork.
Tagore dance – a dance form from Bengal based on the songs written by the Nobel laureate Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore known for its soothing music and elegance. This is perhaps the only dance form in the world which has originated from the works of a single poet!
Kathak – an Indian classical dance form from Northern India known for its chakkars or spins and energetic presentation.
Together, the north, the east and the west come to celebrate Spring with the NCPA.

ADITI BHAGWAT AND TROUPE – LAVNI
We celebrate “Love” with Lavni folk dance by Aditi Bhagwat and troupe.

Aditi will present a traditional dholki mujra as practised in lavni and two Marathi songs composed by her mother, eminent artiste Ragini Bhagwat.

SWAPNOKALPA DASGUPTA AND TEACHERS IN THE CSR PROJECT
We celebrate “blossom” with Tagore dance by Swapnokalpa Dasgupta (Head Dance Programming, NCPA) and NCPA CSR project faculty.

Swapnokalpa and the artistes will present three songs from Tagore’s Bhanusinghher Padavali, a compilation of songs in Mythili Brajabuli language ( similar to hindi) written by Tagore on the eternal love story of Radha and Krishna. The songs depict the beautiful nature of spring.

TINA TAMBE AND GROUP – KATHAK
We celebrate “colours” with Kathak by Tina Tambe and group.

Tina will present some exquisite compositions based on Spring and a special section on the Indian festival of colours, HOLI as a finale.

Admission on a first-come-first-serve basis and as per the prevailing COVID-19 norms.
