For the last 40 years, Avani Shah has expressed her devotion to Durga through the vibrant tradition of raas-garba. A trained Bharatanatyam and Kathak dancer, she transitioned from classical repertoire (or varnam) to create her own signature style, ‘swarnam’. As a choreographer and founder of her troupe, NrityAvani, she is known to blend tradition with creativity. At the NCPA, NrityAvani will present a special performance featuring 40 dancers celebrating Gujarati folk music and the spirit of Navratri.
