A talk by photographer Divya Cowasji about her work, process, and why she gravitates towards performative self-portraiture.
Her work focuses on the telling of oral histories, the archive, on ideas of home and family, identity, memory, play and the body. Using performative self portraiture, she seeks to explore documentary photography’s theatrical potential—as a conduit to shed the burden of ‘truth’ often weighing heavy on the photographic medium.
Divya is a also a founding member of Eight-Thirty, an emerging collective of women photographers from India.
