Over the centuries, the Indian music has thrived on account of Guru-shishya Parampara, carrying forth the artistic legacy from one generation to the next in an unbroken manner.

Amjad Ali Khan is a direct descendent of Ghulam Ali Khan, who is regarded as an important figure in the early history of sarod, which is a fretless lute evolved in the 18th century from Afghani rabab. Amjad Ali Khan is hailed as orthodox among the traditional, and progressive among the creative. The internationally acclaimed sarod maestro has worked with some of the greatest artistes from diverse traditions across the globe.

His two sons and disciples, Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash, have also notable individual accomplishments and represent the seventh generation of the Seniya Bangash music lineage. Having been learning from their father as well the grandfather, Abeer and Zohaan, 11-year-old twins of Ayaan Ali Bangash, represent the 8th generation.

In this sarod quintet, Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash will take to the stage first, followed by the maestro’s recital. In the grand finale, Abeer and Zohaan join in, thus showcasing 5 members of the 3 generations of sarod players, epitomising the spirit of Guru-shishya Parampara in the true sense.
