Short Film Screenings    

An NCPA Presentation in collaboration with White Wall Screenings 

There are so many wonderful short films being made in India, with auteurs at work in their own regions, and bold, new voices who are experimenting with form and technique. Short Film Corner hopes to connect movie lovers with these films and open a dialogue with filmmakers, who in turn, get a chance to connect with their audiences.

Kapaat
Hindi Film (14 mins) 

Kapaat is the story of a 10-year-old boy who lost his favourite cupboard to his sister’s dowry. He sets out to get a new one and ends up discovering something entirely unexpected.

Love Note
Hindi Film (14 mins) 

Love Note is the story of a nine-year-old boy who sells tissue paper packets on the streets of Mumbai. He comes up with the idea of selling ‘love notes’ written on tissues to couples. The film talks about how one does not have to be born into a loving family to be a vessel of love.

Kav Kav
Marathi and Konkani Film (12 mins) 

Sonya is a boy who is seen following and luring crows in the jungle, to no success. Dejected, he returns to the house where his mother is kept away from him due to some crows having ‘touched’ her. In reality, his mother is menstruating but the poor boy thinks it is because of crows that her mother has become untouchable. The innocent boy goes to such an extent that he disrupts a stranger’s last rites and rubs rice offerings all over his body so that the crows come and eat, thus making him as ‘untouchable’ as his mother.

Orange Candy 
Hindi Film (5 mins) 

What would you do if you knew you were going to die anytime? Any adult confronted with this question would start with their long bucket list. However, Shiva and Pintu’s conversation offers us a child’s perspective on this question and the larger issue of life after death. Death, when seen from a child’s lens, is an event like any other. Through this film, we follow Shiva and Pintu’s conversation about their understanding of life after death.
