Shoot the Cameraman – Contemporary Dance & Live Camera by As We Are

As We Are (AWA), created by Baptiste Hilbert and Catarina Barbosa, is a Luxembourg-based dance company. Their inspiration comes from contemporary social matters, mainly related to new behaviours engendered by the digital age. They aim to add a new dimension to movement by combining choreographic art and the latest technological innovation to reveal themselves as they are. This process allows them to get closer to their audience and push the envelope of the performing arts.

Shoot the Cameraman blends the instinctive and spontaneous quality of live performance with the possibilities of a director/cameraman joining the dancers. One of the aims of this experiment is to play with the audience’s perspective, by showing what is taking place onstage through the use of a screen that transmits the same action from different angles, using different shots. That seeing is interactive, personal and supposedly unfalsifiable is the core idea of the production.
