The NCPA’s new dance festival, Spectrum, has been initiated to present dance forms from across the world. For its first season this year, we have multiple performances spread across the two days of the festival. The evenings will be guided by dancer-choreographer Sandip Soparrkar.

Ballet
The School of Classical Ballet and Western Dance under the direction of its founder Tushna Dallas and her daughter Khushcheher Dallas will present two ballet pieces and one Russian character folk dance. The first will be a classical waltz – a choreographed arrangement to waltz music with graceful and elegant movements incorporating the classical ballet technique. It will be followed by a colourful and vibrant folk dance with variations in the tempo of the music, i.e. quick, precise steps followed by slow extended movements concluding with the earlier quick section and ending the presentation with variations from well-known ballets Giselle and La Bayadere.

Namaste Flamenco
Shehzeen Cassum, the ambassador of flamenco to India, along with her dance company Namaste Flamenco, will present a melange of different styles of flamenco ranging from the traditional to the contemporary. Through interactive demonstrations, storytelling and performances, the aim is to trace the roots of flamenco back to India.

Chair Soirée
Actor and founder of PoleStar India, Smilly Suri along with her troupe will present an act on the theme of Empowered Women Empower Women. The story will talk about depression and women empowerment through chair dancing involving various complex chair tricks and moves attained through strenuous core control, yoga and arm strength.

Aerial Silk
Aditi Deshpande, founder of Fly High Aerial Arts, is a trained gymnast and a professional rope mallakhamb sportsperson. Four-time national champion and a recipient of the most prestigious state-level award, Shri Shiva Chatrapati Award (2004), she will present aerial acrobatics on aerial silk. The variety of moves, drops, wraps, twists and turns are practically endless and create an ever-intriguing challenge.
