Stories of the Streets with Wriddh
A musical presentation based on baul and folk music of East India
Baul connotes a syncretic religious sect of mystic ministrels of Bengal as well as their music tradition. Lalan Fakir (b. 1774), an icon of religious tolerance in Bengal, is regarded as the most influential proponent of baul music.
Using the idiom of baul and folk music of East India, Wriddh presents songs in Bangla and narrates the script of the stories in English. The musical presentation is punctuated with deliberations on the life of Lalan Fakir and his songs on topics ranging from travel, nature, sexuality, secularism and many other subjects.
Wriddh is a versatile singer and songwriter from Kolkata who has travelled extensively across India and overseas with various bands.
