Creating Community: of parallel practices and points of intersection

Anurag Banerjee in conversation with Juhi Vishnani and Shiva Nallaperumal of November Design Studio

In late 2023, Anurag reached out to November on Instagram with a request to design the cover of the book he was working on at the time. What began as a shot in the dark set them off on a journey of collaboration and community-building.  

The talk will explore the practices of November Design Studio and photographer Anurag Banerjee, their individual journeys and how community and care are at the centre of the work that they produce. 

They recently collaborated on designing Anurag’s new website, which aims to bridge the Photographer’s bookmaking practice with the digital realm.

About the speakers
November is a plural design practice founded by Juhi Vishnani and Shiva Nallaperumal. Based in Mumbai, they work with clients across the globe who recognize the power of design, creating meaningful outcomes that transcend disciplines through form, content, and strategy. They challenge the traditional role of a design studio, moving beyond service providers to active collaborators with clients in shaping meaning. Whether commercial or self-initiated, November’s work balances craftsmanship with concept-driven, research-led processes in search of original ideas, while continually questioning the role of design in the modern world.

Typeface design has been a key focus for the studio, running in parallel with their broader design practice. They’ve created numerous typefaces for clients and leading type foundries, with November’s fonts used by brands of all sizes across a wide range of contexts, from digital platforms to print.

Anurag Banerjee (b. 1991) is an independent photographer, writer and bookmaker based between his hometown, Shillong and Bombay. In a career spanning over a decade, he has worked for several brands and organisations, and his work has been extensively published in print and online.

Anurag’s first self-published book I’m not here (2022), partly funded by a grant from Nazar Foundation, explored the idea of home. The Songs of Our People, made with the support of Meghalayan Age Ltd., looks at culture, identity and belonging through the lens of music in Meghalaya. The first volume of The Songs of Our People was published in 2024 and the second in 2025.
