A poignant and timeless tale of love and pen-friendship that unfolds over four decades. Adapted from A.R. Gurney’s celebrated play Love Letters, this Gujarati rendition brings a fresh cultural perspective to a globally acclaimed story.
The play follows the lives of Kalpana and Jawahar, both born in 1947—she, from a wealthy family, and he, from a middle-class background. Through their lifelong exchange of letters, Patra Mitro captures the essence of their love, conflicts, aspirations, and disappointments, reflecting the evolving dreams of Gujaratis in the 60s, 70s, and beyond. Amidst paintings, poetry, politics, and personal battles, their words paint a picture of love that is both heartbreaking and deeply relatable.
This play is performed as a series of letters read aloud as an intimate theatrical experience.
